Ship 1942
Arlington, VA
Welcome!
Welcome to the Ship 1942 website! We are a Sea Scouts BSA organization located in Northern Virginia and part of the Boy Scouts of America National Capital Area Council. Sea Scouts is all about adventure, learning, and boating!
What is Sea Scouts?
Why Join Ship 1942?
Our program focuses on sailing skills, safety, navigation, and boat maintenance, striving to let the youth lead the activities and make the decisions to the fullest extent possible, with support from a strong cadre of adult leaders. We welcome veteran Boy Scouts and totally new scouts alike; no experience is necessary to join.
Ship 1942 offers:
Great opportunities on and off the water
Talented youth and adult leadership to aid new Scouts in leading, responsibility, and knowledge
The chance to go sailing every Monday in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. This usually means 50-60 days on the water each year!
A well-rounded and hands-on sailing education
A small fleet consisting of:
six 18' Flying Scot Vessels
three 25-30' Cruisers (used on our annual "long cruise," a two-week sail on the Chesapeake Bay)
Experienced adult leaders with extensive scouting backgrounds
A long and successful history as a ship – two-time flagship and six-time flagship fleet member
And so much more...
Mission Statement
Safely delivering on the Promise of High Adventure, in, on, under, and around the water by advancing Sea Scouts with fully trained adult volunteers.
